A lot of antivaxers are too young to remember polio. I'm too young as well, but my grandmother had polio when she was pregnant with my Mom. She did better than some but had post-polio syndrome the rest of her life (over 50 years), & it was debilitating and got worse over time.

When people say only 1% of people who have had COVID died and you shouldn't get the vaccine, I have to ask why would they be willing to possibly be that 1%.
-
And we achieved bringing down that death rate through serious interventions in the ICU like intubation and lockdowns to ensure said ICUs weren't overrun. Science deniers just don't seem to get that point every time they regurgitate "but it has a x% survival rate".

This has been a pet peeve of mine from the start. Do you happen to know what percentage of people have severe or long-lasting outcomes? Also when they say it kills less than 1%, I offer the equivalent stat: that’s 600,000 dead Americans & 3 million or more worldwide. So far.

So they aren’t worried about getting a new disease that possibly escaped from a lab and we’re still learning about and could have potential negative health consequences for years to come, but they are concerned about taking a vaccine approved by the FDA?
