If I were *fully vaccinated* and my parents didn't let me go to summer camp after I'd had a lonely and "terrible" school year by their own admission, I wouldn't *never* forgive them but I'd be mad about it for a long, long time. https://slate.com/human-interest/2021/06/teen-parent-cant-agree-safety-covid-care-and-feeding.html …pic.twitter.com/Muer4OaO7i

You do realize, don't you, that no vaccine is 100% effective, which means that even if you're vaccinated there's risk being around a lot of unvaccinated people. A lot less than I'd you aren't vaccinated, but not insignificant. How'd you become such a font of bad #COVID19 takes?🙄

A vaccinated teen? Her risk of significant covid is the same as her risk from measles or myocarditis. These kids won't get these years and this time back. IMO @NateSilver538 called this one right- its not rational to say no to activities like these unless you have med conditions.

It's good you can declare this parent irrational based on the very limited information available in that letter.

If you take precautions against #COVID19, you must be "irrational," dontcha know?

Data was literally 100% in trial. Has a single vaccinated individual under 18 even suffered severe disease from a breakthrough? I’m not saying to let caution go by the wayside, but that’s really overbearing and I’d be pissed too if I’m fully vaccinated and can’t go to camp.

I wear an N95 when I do emergency surgeries on COVID patients. That's rational. Keeping a vaccinated kid home when the risks will NOT meaningfully "improve" for years is irrational- especially if you are also going to send that kid to in-person high school in 3 months.

Risk dropped like 80% in the last 1.5 months (more/less depending where you live)... seems meaningful. Estimates for Delta are also a meaningful change in risk.

Use of precautions should be based in evidence and weigh the many trade-offs involved. In this case, preventing a vaccinated teenager from attending a summer camp at current prevalence levels is way too risk-averse.
