Just on this, I am confused about one point. With covid we hear a lot about viral dose - and the idea the more virus we inhale, potentially the worse the infection. If we wear masks when ill, how is it different - since we must breath in a lot of virus? Is that not a problem?

Isn't viral load about chance of catching covid & severity of impact (the more covid inhaled the more to replicate quickly), but you are talking about someone who already has it in their body & has had it long enough to become infectious.

This is common practice in Japan, where people are used to being in high population density environments, and have more personal courtesy. But here in the USA it's considered a sign of weakness. Why ? I don't know.
