Except that there is evidence of a likely zoonotic origin. As for "zealots," the only zealots I've seen are #LabLeakTheory advocates. Everyone arguing that a zoonotic origin for #SARSCoV2 is much more likely than #LabLeak concedes that a lab leak is possible.🙄https://twitter.com/HurtberryJam/status/1405150396507697153 …

So, given that there is also not any compelling evidence of non-lab origin, it would be appropriate to ridicule the zoonotic origin zealots? (Or we could be civil and just not ridicule eachother but nah... too mature for you I guess)

Basically, #LabLeakTheory enthusiasts' arguments boil down to, "After a year and a half, scientists haven't yet nailed down the exact animal transmission path for a zoonotic origin, therefore it must have been #LabLeak!"

My favorites are the ones who jump up and down on Twitter talking about the furin cleavage site. My first question is “without cutting and pasting the Wikipedia page, tell me 3 physiological functions and 3 diseases that are associated with or recruit furin.”

No evidence of a non-lab origin. Except the...entire history of disease.

Have they ever considered someone could have got infected in Yunnan (where the most closely related viruses have been discovered) and then travelled to Wuhan and started the outbreak? That makes more sense to me than the lab leak....

Wuhan is a few hours' flying time from all sorts of interesting reservoirs in countries with scant surveillance capacity but known close relatives of the beastie circulating in bat populations with overlapping or contiguous territories stretching from the Lower Mekong to Yunnan..
