I open my chapter on naturalness and economics with a discussion of how crypto enthusiasts, bizarrely, use appeal to nature style arguments to defend their position, eg it emerged “organically,” it is the next stage in the “natural evolution” of currency.

I’m an old fuddy duddy economist and I don’t understand why crypto exists. What problem did it solve? The problem of drug cartels having difficulty laundering money isn’t a huge social issue that needed solved.
