I never said anything publicly about it, but a little over two years ago, Bailey was diagnosed with a kidney cancer of some kind. We only ever had cytology; so we were never 100% certain of the tumor type. 2/

The veterinary oncologist recommended radical surgery followed by chemotherapy, with not the greatest odds of remission and a predicted survival of maybe 18 months. 3/

Do my wife and I decided not to put him through all of that. He lasted over two years. Two very good years with his then new buddy Dora and, sometimes, her sun Doug, whom we had fostered from birth and my parents had adopted. 4/pic.twitter.com/Lk6pZvnn4W

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Yesterday, while at dog day care he took a turn for the worst. By afternoon it was obvious that this was it. Fortunately, we were able to get a vet who does in home euthanasia, and Bailey passed without further suffering. 5/

I’ll miss the hilarious way you and Dora would demand your walk, as annoying as your relentlessness could be at times when we were tired or the weather was lousy. 7/pic.twitter.com/ensmLwnEYg

If it's any consolation, you'll go on walking Bailey for the rest of your life, just as I've been walking Merlin, who left us in 2012; he was almost 18. He and Bailey would have got along.pic.twitter.com/4qRTATlp0y

Oh, I still miss Echo, the dog we had before we rescued Bailey. She was a good girl. The best. Just like Dora is now,
