I'm an atheist who hasn't felt comfortable in any atheist community for years. This sort of thing is exactly the reason why.https://www.salon.com/2021/06/05/how-the-new-atheists-merged-with-the-far-right-a-story-of-intellectual-grift-and-abject-surrender/ …

It is? What about it is?

I found it superficial and tribal. Of course these three figures are v flawed but they also have a lot to offer and to describe them as ‘grifters’ is silly. I’d be interested in a serious critique of their ideas but this kind of dog whistle stuff is just Breitbart for the Left.

Having observed these figures for 15 years now, I found the article, sadly, spot on, particularly about Sam Harris and Peter Boghossian and James Lindsay (who really have gone deep into the rabbit hole of right wing anti-"woke" conspiracy theories, embarrassingly so).

To suggest Pinker, Dawkins and Harris have “merged with the far right” is politically obtuse though, whatever you may think of their stances on some issues. I think there’s a sense of betrayal that causes this kind of hysterical overstatement.

Well, “merged” means what? They share a substantial portion off ideology with the far right and are often linked specifically to them.

Yup, especially Harris, Boghossian, and Lindsay, the last of whom has become an utter embarrassment with his right wing conspiracy mongering and declaration that he will wage "ideological war" against the "woke."
