The most annoying #LabLeak advocates of all are the ones who *swear* they believe that #SARSCoV2 has a natural origin, but nonetheless insist we REALLY need to investigate lab origin because…reasons…and then act indignant and wounded when you point out how implausible it is.

Then they act even more hurt when you point out how they are inadvertently aiding conspiracy theorists their spreading of #COVID19 disinformation by vastly exaggerating the likelihood of #LabLeak relative to a natural origin and thereby making disinformation seem more credible.

Is #LabLeak possible? Sure. #LabLeakTheory *could* one day be proven. Is it likely that this will happen? No, not particularly, and right now the evidence for a lab origin for #SARSCoV2 is incredibly dodgy.https://twitter.com/KatzOnEarth/status/1400557044403421187 …

I don’t know how COVID-19 started but I’m gonna do a Nate Silver style prediction: sooner or later we’re going to see a series of introspective media columns on how Pottinger, Pompeo & Co. rolled the media into accepting the “China did it” theory before it was fully baked. https://twitter.com/FaceTheNation/status/1400551680320618505 …

I’ll change my mind if anyone produces compelling evidence. Right now, though, #LabLeakTheory is basically an appeal to ignorance, often based on risibly incompetent molecular biology and genocide. Want to change doubters’ minds? Produce some actual scientific evidence!

I mean, geez, people! Cherry picking Fauci’s emails? This is getting into Climategate territory.🙄🤦🏻‍♂️

Simple gain of function research and passaging of a natural virus to make it more transmissible should fall into that category and that's a perfectly reasonable thing to consider.

Not based on Fauci emails or any of the other nonsense -it does indeed sound entirely plausible that a lab worker became infected and thus the chain of transmission was inadvertently started. But I defer somewhat to your clinical knowledge if this is simply not possible.

But these are simultaneously possible. A natural virus studied in a lab can escape. Lab leak doesn't mean the virus is engineered.

If so , China would simply have said we found the natural source right away and blame that. Why would they say we don't know the natural source?
