The article states itself Australian officials give the lab leak theory a 40% chance of being true. That number itself is more than enough to justify all the attention it’s getting.

As a layperson who instinctively feels zoonosis is the likely explanation, I would still like to see more peer-reviewed papers on why a lab-"evolved" virus is less likely (I've read on Twitter that the furin cleavage is unlikely to come from lab culture).

The evidence I read constantly that it’s from natural origin is that that’s just how pandemics start. It’s not compelling enough evidence. How is it possible after millions have died we don’t have more information that this?

The lab leak theory is compelling because the only evidence presented for natural origins is that,
thats how other pandemics have spread. Well, that’s not that convincing honestly. Yes, it’s important historical trend, but does little to disprove other possible theoriesThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I'm not a virologist, but I read the literature. The "Lab Leak" hypothesis is bunkum. It is trivially easy to prevent a virus from "leaking" from a lab. It's almost impossible to stop zoonosis.

SARS-CoV2 is a respiratory virus, so wouldn’t the “leak” be an infection of a lab worker? Certainly more likely than someone in the street getting sick from contaminated labware in the trash.

Few seem to get that belief is not evidence
