I deleted my earlier tweets about the origins of the pandemic because they were badly phrased. The origin of the pandemic is an important line of reporting that my colleagues are covering aggressively.

The Wuhan lab leak claim is just like a depressingly long preceding line of similar claims that, for example, H1N1, Ebola, HIV, and others, came from a lab or were even “engineered” or “bioweapons.”
-
The problem with the Wuhan lab leak hypothesis is that it is not falsifiable. Even though there is no evidence that
#SARSCoV2 was engineered (and its nucleotide sequence argues strongly against it), it’s unlikely that any amount of evidence will satisfy believers in lab leak. - Show replies

No bearing whatsoever on the issue. None.

No, it has EVERY bearing on the issue, because supporters of the lab leak hypothesis ALSO have to show why this time it’s more than just another predictable conspiracy theory. I don’t deny lab leak as a possibility, but I really don’t see any compelling evidence for it right now.

Yeah, totally agree here. I see 2 distinct things: 1. Is lab leak a legitimate discussion point? I'm not a virologist, but just a layman responding to the increase in the news. This answer *seems* like yes now? 2. I'm asserting that entertaining #1 =/= racism.
-
Re: #2, this tweet actually explained what I was trying to ascertain. Certainly, some will use this theory to come to this racist conclusion, but my (and many others) main thrusts are I simply expect the worst of the CCP & I just want to know the truth.https://twitter.com/alchemytoday/status/1397818295647096833 …

Have you or has someone written anything about this? I'd like to learn more about that history. It seems awfully odd that the lab leak notion has suddenly, out of the blue, started being pushed by the US media and politicians, when as far as I know the scientific community hasn't
-
discovered anything new that would merit it suddenly being more plausible than the alternative claim that this is yet another of zillions of viruses that have made the jump from animals to humans as a result of either animal ag or human encroachment on animals' natural habitat.
