That's the point of the disinformation. It's a lot like the Gish gallop. The crank throws out so much misinformation that it takes so much time to refute it all as to make the task in essence impossible. Another term for this is "firehosing."

Basically, Ms. Wolf takes advantage of Brandolini's law, which states, "The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude larger than to produce it." Skeptics have long known this to be true, and cranks have long taken advantage of this principle.

Indeed, the only quibble I have with Brandolini's law is that it underestimates the amount of energy necessary to refute BS. It's likely really at least two or three orders of magnitude greater than the energy needed to produce it.

Is it worse than that even? Think how much effort it takes to start a fire vs how much it can take to put them out. The more prolific your arsonist, the less time the fire department has for fire safety prevention training.

True. Since the same wqrong arguments get repeated again & again, it really helps to have a resource that catalogs & refutes them once, making it easy to just cite & dismiss without dignifying bad arguments. Best example I know is one on climate: http://www.skepticalscience.com/fixednum.php

I've used that SkS website often, incl: a) When doing lectures b) Radio call-in shows c) Blog/article comments with word limits. It addresses claims without ignoring them, and makes point to onlookers how repetitive they are, how long debunked, and saves time for real Q's.
