“Medical marijuana” is and has always been mostly a marketing term to lead the way to legalization for recreational use. The evidence base supporting just weed (as opposed to pharmaceutically purified cannibinoids) to treat anything has always been highly underwhelming.https://twitter.com/SBMPediatrics/status/1397144459889029120 …

Marijuana has an undeserved health halo and increasing availability is leading to more complications. 25% of these involved children. https://www.yahoo.com/news/tens-thousands-americans-calling-poison-211801598.html …

I don’t recall the exact numbers, but a general population poll we did in SC a while back showed solid public support for medical marijuana AND a desire to have it regulated by the FDA. Even if we imagine federal approval, this would seem to obviate FL-esque dispensaries.

... there’s no quality or dosage control and I would *have* to hope the FDA would never back *smoking* anything, so ... pills/suspensions/edibles only?

Vaping Although the only real study done showed smoking improved lung function

The only studies I’ve read included smoking, not vaping, marijuana. Those showed much better lung function than cigarette smokers, but don’t recall data v. NonSmokers. I recall a good meta analysis. Let me see if I can find it. Maybe if compares to NonSmokers.

It looks like the meta analysis showed chronic marijuana smokers had worse lung issues (across several criteria), but moderate users didn’t - and, at least on lung function, were better. Still quick skimming.

Yes abuse of any substance has consequences Too much water can kill you Lets not go down the same road as opioids and seek to deny those who don't abuse to protect those who do

The “only 7 days” worth of opioids at a time rules anecdotally (1) make the lives of the chronic pain victims more difficult and (2) aren’t liked by physicians. HOWEVER, this is PURELY anecdotal based on personal conversations - so adjust salt intake accordingly.

Yeah, from my perspective, the pendulum has swung from " pain as the fifth vital sign" (which was not evidence-based too far in the direction of too much opioid use) to the current ridiculously restrictive standards now (which are too far in the punitive/restrictive direction).

Do you agree that since no chemical process is required to extract trichomes from plants big pharma has no incentive to study anything other than isolated cannabinoids that do have a patentable extraction process?

What an oddly phrased statement/question. Actually, no, I would never agree to *anything* I hadn’t researched or seen evidence of. The best I can say is, in a market capitalist economy, it seems logical that a corp would max research $ for max profit items and minimize the rest.
