This law works for scientific papers, grants, and other publications. I can't remember the number of times I've opened a grant to revise it for resubmission, only to find glaring typos that should have been caught before the first submission...https://twitter.com/neilhimself/status/1395650013544337412 …

It's a Gaiman's Law corollary. (Gaiman's Law being that no matter how much a book is proofread, upon opening a printed copy for the first time, the first thing you'll see is a typo.)

I don’t know why it was such a lovely surprise but to see a Gorski/Gaiman medley just totally made my day.

It also works for music published by the best. I have found a dozen or so engraving errors over the years, in the best music publishers. It's hard to pinpoint everything when you proofread.

I don’t even bother to count the typos and autocorrect/autocomplete errors in my Tweets. For one thing, there are so many. More importantly, they can’t be corrected anyway.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t invalidate the law. Professional writers hire professional copy editors and proofreaders precisely for this purpose, and the law still applies.

Did that with my PhD thesis. Read it on the train up to Dundee and found over 40 typos, plus an entire page where the references were still unformatted. The three examiners only found about 20.
