Do people who say this also consider themselves seatbelted by their deity or oil changed by their deity or protected against drowning by their deity, or do they take reasonable precautions in other contexts but assume their deity will protect them from themselves in this one?

I know you mean this rhetorically....but there is a segment of Evangelical Xtianity that abhors safety measures like helmets/seat belts. They believe God will protect them. So bumperstickers like "Jesus is my co-pilot" are common with these folks.
