Got a request to go on CNN today to talk about Ohio's vaccine lottery. Deferred because economic incentives for vaccination are not my area of expertise and I only know the literature superficially. See how easy that is?pic.twitter.com/VNpEBRx78r

I do this sort of thing all the time. If I don't feel sufficiently comfortable about a topic, I won't go on live TV or radio, but I will sometimes say yes to interviews from print journalists, emphasizing that this is not my area of expertise.

I think you're missing her point. Why would you say yes to any media interview if it's not your area of expertise?!? If I want to read the opinions of non-experts on any given topic, I'll just ask the old guys having coffee on the park bench near my house. They know it all!

I don't think I did. I just mean to add that there's a continuum and that if you're too far out of your comfort zone you should avoid live interviews, where the potential for disaster is higher, while print interviews are more controlled and often just done for background.
