Got a request to go on CNN today to talk about Ohio's vaccine lottery. Deferred because economic incentives for vaccination are not my area of expertise and I only know the literature superficially. See how easy that is?pic.twitter.com/VNpEBRx78r

I did a brief interview for print last night, saying yes, this could work, pointing them to a few of the papers I knew, and suggesting other people they should contact for more details. For that, they only wanted the basics, which I was OK with. Depth, not me.

That's cool. One problem I find is that I'm a clinician and these requests seem very frequently to come on days when I'm in clinic or the OR and unavailable...oh, well...

I think you're missing her point. Why would you say yes to any media interview if it's not your area of expertise?!? If I want to read the opinions of non-experts on any given topic, I'll just ask the old guys having coffee on the park bench near my house. They know it all!

I don't think I did. I just mean to add that there's a continuum and that if you're too far out of your comfort zone you should avoid live interviews, where the potential for disaster is higher, while print interviews are more controlled and often just done for background.
