Wait, what? Public health interventions to save lives “violate human rights”? And he says this in the middle of a pandemic?🙄🤦🏻‍♂️https://twitter.com/strauss_matt/status/1388696671975055367 …

I worked in ICUs and Covid wards the last 20 days in a row, and some of the nights. It is a privilege to get to take care of sick people; I love my job. Whatever fatigue I might feel tonight is no justification to restrict anyone's human rights.

My mom’s family fled communism when she was a toddler. They came to Canada by boat via refugee camp. When I was a toddler, my dad was often away flying @RCAF_ARC missions in Canada’s arctic to protect us from the same totalitarian threat. (1/2)

The deep divisions in our country are sadly reflected in our healthcare professional workforce too. It is disheartening, dangerous, and an abuse of public trust.

Wait, what? He thinks that public health measures to protect people—especially vulnerable people—from infection, illness, suffering, long COVID & death are, um, a violation of human rights? A violation of the “human right to illness & death”? I am a bit confused.

Many human rights may be legitimately restricted on public-health grounds as long as the restrictions are legal, necessary and proportionate. Failing that, they are violations.
