It is a common delusion in alternative medicine that, by eating the right foods and living the right lifestyle and taking the right supplements, you can make yourself immune to any disease, in particular infectious diseases. 1/https://twitter.com/DrBradCampbell/status/1382523328842362880 …

Health equals freedom. Become so healthy you aren’t scared of almost any 🦠 or germ. This year more than any other, vibrant health IS freedom. P.S. You have been free this whole time! 😉 All it takes is to accept risk, and then disobey.

It’s a combination of germ theory denial coupled with victim blaming in which illness is almost entirely the fault of the person who becomes ill. 2/2

Often entirely. I have been told by people that my chronic illness would go away if only I thought more positively.

And it goes back to old religious ideas about illness being God's judgment. Same shit, different packaging. And as someone who was literally born chronically ill, it pisses me off.

My infant self didn't do anything deserving of being a micropreemie and having bad lungs. My parents didn't do anything deserving of me having fetal growth arrest and fetal distress, thus requiring an emergency C-section. It was an accident of biology. Bad luck. That's it.

On a more deeper level, it's probably also a consequence of the inability to accept randomness... Everything has to have an identifiable (and preventable) cause. 🤔

Yup ... that donut 6 weeks ago made you develop bubonic plague today. I see them as desperately fearful about the randomness of diseases, and trying to ward off evil with rituals.
