I’m thinking I may start calling physicians “providers” just to screen out the ones who put ego before patient care. I’m struggling to find any way I could work it into conversation, though.

That is the issue, isn't it?

When we take insurance cards - including medicare & medicaid cards out- they ask in terms of MDs- "who's your provider?" & this is necessary to get & gain payment- so unless MDs want to only go private & direct payment- this must be accepted at some point.

Yeah, and I’m usually more concerned with communicating my emergent issue in the ER than I am with obsessing over whatever title I’m going to call someone. What, is she really going to “correct” someone who’s come in with a broken arm?

The use of "medical provider" seems like a mostly governmental and insurance term to mean "the person who is providing you access to medical therapy", since that may NOT be a physician (my PCP is an NP)

Right. Because of all the things in the world that didn't happen, this didn't happen the most.
