In case anyone forgot A medical doctor, a physician, is #NotAProvider

All I can say is that it's depressing how some of my colleagues are so hung up on the trappings of being a physician that they lose their friggin' minds over being called a word that they consider insufficiently respectful of their utter awesomeness.
-
It's also hilarious in that it's a made-up scenario that basically never happens. I've been called a lot of things by patients while seeing consults in the ER, but "provider" is not one of them.

She might be happier in a research setting, away from patients. I'm sure her patients would be better served by a doctor who isn't watching them for appropriate deference.

Am I missing something? I'm pretty sure my doctor has PROVIDED me with healthcare, making them "health care providers." That's kind of just how language works. If there's some in-profession terminology that makes this not true, most non-docs do not know this.
-
I think the issue is "providers" also includes nurse practitioners who aren't physicians but are licensed to do lots of previously physician-only procedures.

Everyone has to get over themselves. If this dumpster fire of a year had taught us anything, it’s that we all need to respect each other’s humanity and vulnerability. A rose by any other name...dial down your rhetoric and indignation

How do non-provider physician get paid? I mean, if the phrasing matters so much.
-
It's sooo trivial! & who's walking around the ER calling anyone "Provider"? "Doctor" or "Nurse" sound more likely.
