I’ve been a RN for 35 yrs. I’ve worked at many teaching hospitals & heard many different people use the term provider, incl. MDs. Never once heard anyone object...out loud. I also never knew the history of the term, and I’m sure I’m not alone. Seems like a teaching moment to me.

Interesting. Thanks for clarifying. I had never heard that interpretation of provider until today. That being said, I have never had anyone object to the word either.

No problem, I appreciate you being receptive to the new info. I was a history major & I'm also a Jew so seeing people try to use the Holocaust to poison the "provider" well based on a mistranslation really bothered me.

Whenever I see a colleague repeat misinformation about "behandler" as a way of claiming that the term "provider" originated in Nazi Germany to describe Jewish doctors (misinformation based on a mistranslation), I really have to work to control my irritation.
