I remember sitting on the SF society stand at Freshers Fair in 1996 and realising most of the new students weren't born when I saw Star Wars in 77.

Or reading the books in 8th grade and waiting 30 years for the movie to come out.

Sure. I first read the books around 1973 or 1974, when I was in junior high. I also reserved a first printing copy of The Silmarillion a few year later when it was published. I still have that book.

I once had to teach residents that "Mack Tonight" was not a MacDonald's commercial. My fellow and I stood up and sang the song.

I don't need to explain. My young adult kids generally have no interest in any TV show or movie I like. I did get them to watch WandaVision and they got hooked by the exploration of grief.

I hated most children’s books because they were cutesy and irritating, so read my very young boys Lord of the Rings and other fantasy novels . When they saw the films, they said they remembered the story!
