"Hey, Jesus! Don't bump my hand while I'm doing this anastomosis! This is delicate work!"

To any believers, I'm sorry. I just find this particular painting so cheesy that I have a hard time not making fun of it. Even back when I was a devout Catholic, as a surgeon in training I still found this particular painting irritating.
I don't know how old that painting is. Mandatory eye protection is a bit of a newer phenomenon. I mean, 30 years ago, when I was starting residency, I don't recall anyone using eye protection except in the trauma bay.
Agree. I always wore glasses in the OR but only because I'm blind without them. But I remember when I was a resident 30 years ago many surgeons didn't wear glasses. Changed with HIV, obviously. (I still hate the masks with shields, though. I always fog up)
Yeah, HIV definitely got rid of a lot of the lackadaisical attitude a lot of people in medicine had towards PPE. Also, look how old I sound to be saying that a 30 year old phenomenon is "a bit of a newer phenomenon."
