There is an esoteric quality to vinyl that can't be reproduced on CD. And CDs replaced vinyl so... vinyl is an older technology. I have both.

I like to say that vinyl most definitely does *not* produce more *accurate* sound reproduction compared to CD, but it *does* sound *different* in a way that many people find more pleasurable.

Not just the sound though, is it? Getting the thing out of the sleeve, giving it a bit of a clean, the art work on the sleeve, writing big enough to read...

Even with digital downloads, you can't get a pdf of the album cover. It's sad.

I've never been into digital downloads much. I still prefer the physical mediums. Less likely to go POOF in a fit of tech fubarring. But, I'm old.

I still have something like 1,000 CDs. I ripped them all to lossless files on my computer, which I play at home over wifi and have matched with my Apple Music so that I can play them on my iDevices, but I’ve still kept the CDs boxed up, just in case.

It took me weeks to rip my 1,000 CDs, doing them in batches several times a week. Basically, it generally averages a few minutes per CD, even with a fast optical drive. Some CDs might take longer because they’re degrading, and error correction slows them down...
