I hurt my back once a few years ago, and I've been lucky to have never hurt it before or since - physiotherapist a super nice guy, some of the stretches worked a bit, but the acupuncture was always useless, time consuming & expensive.

They got acupuncture or traditional care? Not in addition? That’s what he writes but it seems hard to believe if we know traditional care works. I couldn’t tell if it was blinded, or if people were told “we won’t give you meds, you are getting needles instead”

@hubermanlab recently discussed sham acupuncture on his healing podcast, episode 9. I've not seen the study but my takeaway was that sham acupuncture still stimulates somatosensory-visceral crosstalk in the cerebral cortex, thereby possibly still having physiologic effect
