So @facebook's brain dead algorithm strikes again, locking me (an administrator) out of posting to the @ScienceBasedMed for 24 hours because I posted an article from @oracknows deconstructing a dubious treatment for #COVID19. FB, your #COVID19 misinformation algorithm is 💩.pic.twitter.com/meKK2HTvyB

I’ve learned this. You can’t have any image or headline that can possibly be misunderstood by the algorithm. Debunking articles need to be worded very carefully.

I wonder if @Facebook would have flagged it if I had included the word "quackery" in the headline and blurb. I didn't do that because I was trying to be less inflammatory.

That's exactly it. Facebook needs inflammatory to live.

If @Facebook did flag my post because the headline about a dubious #COVID19 treatment was too "neutral," that makes me wonder if the algorithm is fueling division by forcing skeptics to use more inflammatory language in order not to be mistaken for promoting misinformation.

I've created an algorithm to distinguish between "conspiratorial" and "non-conspiratorial" tweets related to covid, where these two labels have been defined by me. The funny thing is that it's also very keyword dependent. For example, the presence of "scamdemic" in a tweet 1/

Will almost always classify it as conspiratorial, even if the tweet reads "covid is not a scamdemic". I'm trying to correct this problem, and seeing fb struggle with the same is encouraging to say the least. 2/2
