In case it wasn't clear. I was being sarcastic. Normally it's conservatives complaining about "cancel culture." Here, it's conservatives trying to "cancel" academics highlighting Winston Churchill's serious shortcomings in terms of his racism and support of colonialism.

Shows the ambiguity of the phrase "cancel culture." It is wrong-headed to deny historical facts or criticism of historic heroic figures because. Their heroism doesn't cancel their flaws and mistakes, and likewise, their flaws and mistakes don't cancel their historic roles. /1

Also, can't help but bring up Churchill's incredible reputation recovery after WW1. He was widely criticized for the bloody failure of the Gallipoli campaign. His subsequent return to power surely seemed unlikely to most of the UK. History & Churchill are complex. 2/ end
