Antivaxxers LOVE this trope. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve seen them portraying vaccines and vaccine science as a religion.https://twitter.com/AlanLevinovitz/status/1371834816199598089 …

In fact, science deniers of all stripes love the “science is a religion” trope.

Hell, I’ve even seen Holocaust deniers portray the Holocaust as a religion that one “dare not question.”

Basically, it’s a go-to move by cranks to portray conventional science or academic knowledge as “religion.”

It isn’t a religion by definition if you can prove it by logic and facts. Science isn’t about faith.

Religion can have logic and facts as well, and is not always faith based. Religion tends to more spiritual focus though while science by definition has to be grounded in reality. Regardless even if there are elements of religiosity in science, that doesn't make science wrong.

While discussing once again the quackery of my mothers essential oils with her she told me very seriously that she was worried I have a religion of science. 🤦‍♀️ My brother said something similar to me once when I was using statistics to back up my position on gun control.

My brother actually asked me to give him a reason to support gun control without using and facts or data or links to studies. 🤦‍♀️ My reply, I guess what you want to hear are my "feelings" on the subject and I *feel* the country would be less violent w/o so many guns on the street.
