One of the most annoying denizens of Twitter (to me) is the Twitter nanny who, whenever I quote-Tweet or respond to, for instance, an antivax Tweet in order to refute its misinformation, inevitably shows up in my responses to oh-so-self-righteously scold me for "amplifying" it.

It ceases to be amplification when you tweet a response.

Well especially since backfire effect is no longer clear cut. We know it happens, can not tell when, but probably is related to poorly done debunking. That said, I was wondering if Noor was using you as a foil to advance his antivax cred.

I've come to believe that the backfire effect is a hell of a lot more limited and uncommon than has been believed over the last decade.

My block list is vast and grows daily. I don’t owe anyone my aggravation.

IKR? Basically, if someone annoys me enough, I'll block them. On days when I'm in a good mood the threshold for blocking might be higher. When I'm in a bad mood, it might be lower. Such is life...

Tone policing you too I bet. I get so many attacks for being rude, like that’s far worse than knowingly posting disinformation. I’m lower profile so don’t get it like you do. But it’s a common tactic to distract from the facts.

I think in general it amplifies when a gazillion people retweet the ridiculous assertions, but when someone like you who has don’t the difficult and meticulous work of systematically debunking it’s an entirely different story.
