One of the most annoying denizens of Twitter (to me) is the Twitter nanny who, whenever I quote-Tweet or respond to, for instance, an antivax Tweet in order to refute its misinformation, inevitably shows up in my responses to oh-so-self-righteously scold me for "amplifying" it.

Over the years, my impression of such people has developed to this conclusion: The vast majority of them care far more about asserting their intellectual and moral "superiority" than they do about actually slowing or stopping the spread of misinformation on Twitter.

It's gotten to the point lately where I'm seriously considering instituting a policy of automatically blocking people who show up in my mentions ONLY to self-righteously scold me for "amplifying" misinformation.

Regardless of their true motivations, they’re right. Better to just take a screenshot of the tweet.

It is annoying when you take time to educate and people correct your communication strategy. But I also worry about unintended amplification. Granted, I could be wrong. Misinformation has had dire consequences. Thank you for your efforts even if I am not sold on your strategy.

Totally agree. They do it to feel good about themselves.
