Over the years, my impression of such people has developed to this conclusion: The vast majority of them care far more about asserting their intellectual and moral "superiority" than they do about actually slowing or stopping the spread of misinformation on Twitter.

It's gotten to the point lately where I'm seriously considering instituting a policy of automatically blocking people who show up in my mentions ONLY to self-righteously scold me for "amplifying" misinformation.

Agree. Kerry "didn't amplify" the Swiftboat crap and guess what he lost. This stuff needs to be countered, and to be countered, it needs to be spelled out what's wrong with it.

You can counter misinformation without giving it additional engagement. For example, by using a screenshot instead of a quoted tweet.

Like a Twitter "Mary Poppins"?

And what do you say about the ones that claim you are wasting time refuting them?

The purpose isn’t to change the mind of the person propagating misinformation (they’re usually a lost cause) it’s to convince other people who may be on the fence that’s it’s misinformation.

Yep, not a fan of this criticism either. Especially when the account allegedly being amplified is someone with an already huge following like RFK Jr, Naomi Wolf & others.
-
Indeed. I have a lot of followers, yes, but they have several times more. I'm not likely to "amplify" anything they said detectably, and there is value in debunking their crap.

Maybe they would have an argument if it were a tiny minority of ignorance but I hear alt medicine shit everyday.
