Those who claim guns make a home safer are delusional, I’m afraid.https://twitter.com/MarkHoofnagle/status/1369317925329469445 …

Its more nuanced than that I'm afraid. If you are a redneck who takes no safety precautions then of course. If you are a responsible gun owner, it makes your home exponentially safer.

The "nuance" doesn't help the argument. The data are very clear that having a gun in the house puts the gun owner and family at a much higher risk for firearm-related injury and death.
@MarkHoofnagle is more familiar with the data than I am, though. Maybe you can convince him.1 reply 0 retweets 7 likes -

Well also this is false, classist, and absurd. Rednecks aren’t uniquely susceptible to suicide. There is no evidence belief in guns for home defense is socioeconomic. There is no reason to make a class argument about this and it’s just another way for people to dismiss data.

Before it is dismissed as a redneck problem you better fucking show me some actual fucking data that only “rednecks” are at risk.

And he should define “redneck” while he’s at it.

Saying it’s “nuanced” and then deflecting this as a “redneck” problem is the opposite of respectable, scientific, or decent.
