By the time I was born in the early 1960s, old time radio had gasped its last gasp, killed by TV, but many of those shows from the 1940s and 1950s were great. The radio version of Gunsmoke was a revelation to me. "Broadway Is My Beat" had some of the best writing I've ever heard.

Armed Forces Radio used to play them in the 70s. Each week night was a theme, Westerns, Detectives, Comedy etc.
