The only docs I know who make >$500K a year are a handful of orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons...and, of course, some hospital administrators.https://twitter.com/MarkHoofnagle/status/1365391404172730387 …

I must admit Bret Stephens has been so uniformly bad it’s distracted me from how stupid David Brooks takes are. To break into 1% you’re > 500k a year, and the average is 1.7 million. That’s not even close to the averages for these professions. Maybe 1% of us... https://twitter.com/nytdavidbrooks/status/1365275922803417093 …

I’m in academic surgery. After 22 years, I make a respectable salary for a physician, more than twice as much as when I started, but *nowhere* near $500K.

Yeah it's interesting that the only docs that I can think of with millions of dollars are a few private practice surgeons (plastic or ortho) & quacks. A lot of quacks. I hear Faust is really good at erasing student debt tho...

Not to mention the “guild” aspect. Uh yeah, I WANT my doctor to be in a group that excludes people who don’t have their training. If you are messing around with my innards I’m good with you being happy and well paid. The waste in healthcare isn’t in Doc’s salaries.

About 15 years ago, an emergency room / trauma MD started at about $350K/yr in Chillicothe, OH, the poorest county in that state. Anecdotal data from a friend who went into residency there at that time.
