She was wrong to accept large speaker fees from Goldman Sachs, wrong to see nothing wrong in doing so, wrong to describe people she needed to win over as "A basket of deplorables", and wrong to take the pre-2016 "blue wall" states for granted

But her description of a large fraction of Trump supporters a “basket of deplorables” was spot on, even presciently so in a way most couldn’t see at the time.

It became a self-fulfilling label, proudly worn (literally; "deplorable" on hats). How to criticise without this leading to a hardening of your opponent's position? I wish I had a good answer

I’m not talking about her political judgment. In talking about her ability to assess, and in this case her judgment of Trump supporters was, if anything, too kind. SMH.

I'm talking about what she, a professional politician, chose to say. I heard and cringed. Was there any way she could have made her point, without making things worse? (A serious issue, for both of us)
