Before they discovered how profitable antivaccine quackery is, the Bollingers have a long history of being truly horrible when it comes to cancer quackery. 2/

For example, there is the tragic case of Cassandra Callender, a teen with cancer whom the Bollingers exploited most shamefully a few years ago. 3/https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/the-sad-but-unexpectedly-hopeful-cancer-saga-of-cassandra-callender/ …

Sadly, Cassandra Callender did not survive her cancer. Unsurprisingly, her mother blames not the quacks who exploited them (like the Bollingers), but the doctors and child protective services workers who tried to save her life. 4/https://www.wfsb.com/news/mother-of-cassandra-callender-speaks-out-after-her-death/article_ff9ce6bc-97be-11ea-b8ff-13904fb5307e.html …

Indeed, Ty Bollinger and his wife are among the most influential "chemo truthers," quacks and conspiracy theorists who claim that chemotherapy doesn't work against cancer and that "they" are hiding the evidence for that and "natural cures" for cancer. 5/https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/chemo-truthers/

Indeed, the Bollingers' "Truth About Cancer" video series, which has been enormously influential in the world of cancer "natural cures," is chock full of misinformation, disinformation, pseudoscience, quackery, and conspiracy theories. 6/https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/the-truth-about-cancer-series-is-untruthful-about-cancer/ …

Again, besides the disinformation, the series peddles the conspiracy theory that there is a "war on nonconventional doctors" to "suppress" their "natural cures," all because big pharma wants to profit. It's an old conspiracy theory, going back decades, to laetrile and earlier. 7/

Indeed, it's just further evidence to support my hypothesis that all science denial (in this case, denial of science-based oncology and surgery) is a form of conspiracy theory. 8/https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/all-science-denial-is-a-form-of-conspiracy-theory/ …

The reason all science denial is a form of conspiracy theory is that there has to be an explanation for why science rejects the claims of science deniers and quacks. That reason is *always* some sort of "conspiracy" to "suppress" the "truth" the science denier is promoting. 9/

It is, of course, unsurprising that Ty Bollinger has pivoted to antivaccine quackery and
#COVID19 denial. Since the pandemic began nearly a year ago, that's where the most lucrative grift is and that's where the most wild conspiracy theories are. 10/10Show this thread -
Forgot to mention: One interesting wrinkle. Cassandra Callender stopped her therapy when she turned 18, but after she relapsed she went back to conventional medicine. Unfortunately, by that point her odds of survival were much worse, and unfortunately she didn't survive. 10a/10
