Just to be clear, are you saying you think vaccines cause autism?

The claim that vaccines cause autism is THE central claim of the antivax movement. (At least it was, pre-pandemic.) Most antivax parents have an autistic child whose autism they blame on vaccines. Seriously, how is it you don’t know this but pontificate on the antivax movement?

What does autism have to do with the COVID-19 vaccine brother? Jeez! Y’all are a one pony show....jeez.

Nothing...yet. (Wait until there is a
#CovidVaccine approved for children, though. Then we’ll DEFINITELY see claims it causes autism.) The reason we brought up autism is because your “always trust the parents” shtick conflicts with science when it comes to vaccines and autism.1 reply 1 retweet 29 likes -

What then? Parents swear up and down that vaccines caused their child’s autism. What do YOU tell them, Doctor?

“I’m sorry you feel this way. Why do you think that? I’ve not seen any scientific evidence of that - but I understand why you might feel this way. What can I do to help?”

Which is no different than what I’d say initially. They refuse to believe you and bury you with bad scientific studies that support their belief that vaccines cause autism. What do you do then?

Again, this is NOT hypothetical. Just ask any pediatrician. Pediatricians deal with this EVERY day in clinic. Help them out, Doctor! Use your brilliance to teach them how to deal with these parents!

I’m glad you’re not a pediatrician.

And I’m really glad that YOU are not a pediatrician. I predict it wouldn’t take you long to become like Dr. Sears or one of the other pediatricians who cater to antivax and vaccine-hesitant parents and either don’t vaccinate or just “selectively” vaccinate.
