To sow COVID vax fears, anti-vaccine groups are (once again) misusing a federal database where people can report adverse events following a vaccine. Then, in 2008 I noted how lawyers were gaming VAERS by encouraging plaintiffs to report that their child's autism had first been diagnosed after vaccination.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2008/01/18/how-vaccine-litigation-distorts-the-vaer/ …

Basically, it's a hoary old antivaccine trope, antivaxxers misusing and abusing the VAERS database in order to try to imply that the apparent correlation between reported adverse events and vaccines was actually causation.https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/covid-19-vaccines-as-dangerous-continue-apace-vaers-edition/ …

Harvard did a study for the government that showed only 1% of side effects were reported. Likely because some were no big deal or because people didn’t know about VAERS or didn’t know what they were experiencing could be related to the vaccine.

The abusers are always those with power, not the powerless. Please don’t try to gaslight everyone into thinking that the pharmaceutical industry is being “abused” by people who may feel they or their children have experienced an injury from one of their liability free products.

it's not the pharma industry who are being abused. it's the people who are being scared into not vaccinating for no good reason. "you have a tiny chance of an allergic reaction" is not a good reason.

It's especially aggrieving since a close and judicious reading of the data can yield useful stuff. Bad money driving out the good -- it's the story of our times.
