Who is this “we”? Because people do listen to and turn to Dr. Gorski for rebuttals. Look at the timelines of the people speaking for RFK jr. at least one was clearly sympathetic for a long time.

In other words, when you’re taking his “I’m listening to RFK jr. because he’s more polite” at fave value, you may be misled.

Those of us who have countered disinformation for a long time are well familiar with conspiracy theorists and cranks using "civility" as a weapon, characterizing their critics as "angry" or "uncivil" in order to try to discredit them in the eyes of others.

Indeed, disingenuous appeals to "civility" and "politeness" are an intentional tactic used by those peddling disinformation in order to attack those who criticize them and refute their lies and disinformation.

Similarly, ideologues often use anger or "lack of civility" in those providing information, evidence, and data that disconfirm their preexisting beliefs as a convenient excuse to reject having to engage with that disconfirming evidence or take it seriously.

This is a tactic not limited to quacks and antivaxxers. It's often a tactic wielded against minorities agitating for change, against racism, and for equal rights.

Seriously? If you don't believe me, just ask some of the physicians of color on
#medtwitter, to start with. It's a very obvious tactic that's long been deployed. It's also been used against women, who are portrayed as "hysterical" (a sexist trope) and thus not reasonable.3 replies 2 retweets 2 likes -

See the accusation directed against minority members that they’re being “loud”. In a clear effort to silence them.

And, unfortunately, quite effective at silencing them and at tarnishing their reputation.

I believe MLK Jr. even commented on this intentional tactic, if I recall correctly.
