Yes, it's called motivated reasoning, and, the more intelligent and educated you are, the better you tend to be at finding evidence to support your preexisting viewpoint and finding reasons to reject disconfirming evidence.

Unfortunately, it is not. Physicians are human beings too, and most are not scientists. We as a group are very prone to the same errors in thinking to which every other human being is prone, and we're good at compartmentalizing.
