Why are we scared of COVID-19? Because - unlike coronaviruses that cause colds- it can cause severe disease (in some, many some symptoms, some asymptomatic). The vaccines out so far reduce severe disease by 100% (!) and reduce symptomatic infection by up to 95%. So, by definition

On its own, masking is not enough, esp if others around you aren’t masking. But fools who claim masks cause disease, have zero reasoning abilities.

Masks obviously affect the quality of interpersonal communication & they may affect children’s mental health. They reduce oxygen supply though this effect is more accentuated in high grade masks. Their protective effects in non-symptomatic populations are unknown.

Masks in and of themselves don’t “affect children’s mental health”. Children are quite adaptable, unlike some tantruming adults around them. Zero evidence that surgical masks, which are the ones suggested to protect others, “reduce oxygen supply”.
