As I think about it, this does explain a lot about Dr. Prasad's disdain for debunking alternative medicine. After all, after being so awesome for so long, dating back to grade school, why should he waste his amazing brain power and training on something as grubby as homeopathy?
I know it's bad form for people to edit their own Wikipedia pages--how does one go about reporting cases of this, I wonder.... I know of someone who is doing that. @SusanGerbic is this something your group can help with?
I think most of the edits have been removed by other editors but we are taking a look.
Charitable: would there be a pr/academic person responsible for boosting wikipedia pages at a university? I honestly don't now. Not here in Canada.
If he made these changes, so what? Do people mind it if individuals write or edit their own wiki pages? Really? Alternatively, one of the many people who don’t like him (could be at UCSF) could have done it and people are falling for the trick...?
This is a guy who has self-righteously lectured everyone about undisclosed conflicts of interest. While anonymously editing your own Wikipedia page might be a relatively minor offense when it comes to undisclosed COIs, it's still telling to me that he likely did it.
Cringeworthy edits that are embarrassing for subject. But asking as someone w/o a Wikipedia pg: is it bad for a person to add updates to their pg? I can see this issue for many academics who don't have wide recognition. If anything, maybe shows his profile doesn't warrant a page?
It’s mostly that he’s really bragging on himself and going back to childhood to do so. But no, if anything is wrong with your profile or you could expand data for it, I don’t think anyone would notice or mind.
