During any given period, by random chance alone, a lot of people will die. Most of them will be older because older people are closer to the end of their life expectancies (and often have serious comorbidities). They're far more likely to die during a given period than the young.
Antivaxxers will take advantage of those simple facts to portray *any* death (other than perhaps due to trauma) that occurs within a week or two of vaccination with #covidvacccine as the vaccine having killed the person when that will almost certainly not be the case.
Yet, anyone familiar with the law of large numbers will realize that, if you administer millions of doses of vaccines, by random chance alone there will be bad things that happen, and even deaths, seemingly soon after the dose.
It takes careful epidemiology to sort out whether these heart attacks, deaths, etc. are likely to be due to random chance alone or whether there is a signal there indicating correlation that might mean causation. Anecdotes tell us nothing on that score.
It’s almost as good as the trial subject that got hit by lightning... ‘what are the chances’
Totally was going to mention that.
One of the people got struck by goddamned lightning!
Does the covid vaccine make you get struck by lightning, or, maybe, do things just.... Happen?
