There is a storm and several cruise ships get washed up on an island with enough food and water for months. They are sending rescue ships, but it will take months to arrive. People start getting sick. Fortunately, some of the world’s best doctors are there.

They conclude it is a viral illness. There happen to be warehouses of two drugs on the island. There are virologists who believe that those could help. Some people who are dying, including some of the doctors, have heard there is antiviral medicine, and would like to try it.

Their families are begging too. The doctors explain the risks and that the benefit is only theoretical. Some patients want it anyway and some try it. Doctors notice a trend that the patients who take one of the drugs seem to be improving and surviving better than those that don’t

They track data and run statistics and the effect is significant. Then one of you shows up with a gun and locks the warehouses, saying we must wait until multi-year, double-blind, RCTs can be done! You saved everyone fro the "quacks"!

If the exact situation you were describing happened the way you say it I would not show up with a gun. You don't need a multi year study. You could get one done in a few weeks right now. All I'm saying is what I've been saying. There are no new data that justify an NIH review.

So easy, right. With all the scientists *in the world* working on this, and they overlooked that they could just do a couple week RCT. So on the island, you would make them wait another few weeks?

No. I am not arguing against doctors prescribing ivermectin. I am arguing against making the NIH conduct a review to try to get a perfect rating. That's not gonna happen.

Apparently none of you trusts the NIH to come to the right conclusion.

Just to be clear: the outcomes data from countries in which mass ivermectin distribution campaigns were done: the WHO CDC or NIH shouldnt look at it?

Looking at those numbers will be as useful as looking at the same numbers for #Hydroxychloroquine was: Not very, other than to mislead.https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/hcqtrial-com-astroturf-and-disinformation-about-hydroxychloroquine-and-covid-19-on-steroids/ …
