In all the years I worked in GOP politics, from local races to the White House it never occurred to me that it was even remotely possible that there were people sitting in rooms with me that would one day be in favor of overturning a Presidential election and making the loser

Why not? It's not as though it's been a secret that
@GOP has contempt for democracy. They've done their damnedest to gerrymander and suppress@TheDemocrats votes for decades now. They made it clear from the beginning that they didn't consider Obama a legitimate President.10 replies 20 retweets 329 likes -

I mean, basically, Republicans who are amazed at how easily Trump was able to take over the party weren't paying attention the last three decades. Trump is a symptom, not the cause, of what happened to
@GOP, although he did accelerate the process.2 replies 4 retweets 61 likes -

I understand. I really do. I started noticing the anti-intellectual, anti-science, conspiracy mongering tendencies of
@GOP around the time Bill Clinton was inaugurated, but it took over a decade of increasing discomfort with what the party was becoming to finally make the break.2 replies 1 retweet 11 likes -

I’m 62. My first memory of being bewildered was in 1980...Jerry Falwell and his claim of there being a moral majority...that is white and evangelical were the only moral citizens. Seems tame by today’s standards but it was stunning at the time.

I used to hate to admit it, but 1980 was the first election I was old enough to vote, and I voted for Ronald Reagan. Although I never formally joined @GOP, I voted Republican for the next 22 years before finally making the break. My "WTF?" moment was Pat Buchanan's RNC speech.
