So this secession thing: 1. It’s a real thing. It was a thing before Trump. It reflects a divide in this country. 2. The people rolling their eyes at the divide/secession thing are the same people who never saw Trump coming. 3. To squelch it, we should try to understand it.

I sort of agree but what about all the blue/minority cities in red states...this would be messy and dangerous for all of us
-
Yes, the divide now is not so much blue/red or north/south as it is urban/rural.

Wild assumption, but aren't a good chunk of metropolitan areas in blue states liberal-leaning? If so, and there was an exodus, that would further damage those wishing to secede. It's the same reason IL Rs talk of splitting from Cook county. Won't happen, but voters like it.

Having the "let them leave" attitude is just as dangerous. If any state "leaves" it will destroy our nation. That is what they want. The United States is not great because of the individual parts. The US is great because all of the parts. Destruction is what Putin wants.

I know. That's why I said "reluctantly." I'm still fighting this attitude.

And what happens to people like my husband and I? We are over 65 living in rural north Texas, voting blue in the reddest district in Texas. My 90 year old mother lives with us. We could not afford to leave. What would our options be, Dr?
