He's making a huge assumption that all of the sample collection and PCR testing is being done by highly trained and experienced technicians, which it is not, due to the very rapid increase in the volume of testing. He also ignores the possibility of nosocomial infections.

You can't get a false positive by failing to collect enough sample. PCR is qualitative not quantitative.

Yes you can if you run enough cycles. If you can't detect anything until you've got up to 40 replication cycles the chances are you're copying such a miniscule piece of genetic material that it could be anything.

Yup. This "Mum" sure sounds like someone who thinks she knows PCR but has never actually done a PCR reaction. I've done thousands.
