I honestly believe that a whole lot of the people who voted to reelect Donald Trump think that government is corrupt and ineffective anyway and just figured that Trump was, at least, open about it. It's the natural progression of Reganite cynicism over government...

    2. Corey Richardson‏ @vexedinthecity 27 Nov 2020

The GOP has spent the past 40+ years telling Americans that the government is feckless and useless and then spent the better part of the past decade creating a specifically feckless and useless government. Trump was the grand finale of that experiment and ideology...

    3. Corey Richardson‏ @vexedinthecity 27 Nov 2020

Republicans are going to have to make a decision as to where they think the future is; Are they going to keep obstructing and finding way to use government to actively make people's lives worse, or are they going to tack back to the center and at least pretend to care...

    4. Corey Richardson‏ @vexedinthecity 27 Nov 2020

Judging by their new attack on anything that isn't conservative dogma as "socialism," it appears as if they've already decided. Anyone who wants a government that works for the interests of the people, to the GOP, is a socialist and that's the card they're gonna play...

So, it looks like, short of winning those two Senate seats in Georgia, the GOP is going to spend the next couple of years clinging to the last gasps of Reaganism with a tinge of Trump and it's going to cost them a whole lot in 2022.

Except that it might not. 2010 and 2016 showed that their obstructionism didn't cost them and actually helped them.

The 2024 electorate is going to look vastly different than 2016 and with more and more Zoomers aging in and Boomers dying off, I don’t know if the Reagan Era ideas about government survive.

We can always hope, but they've been saying this for literally decades, and Republicans keep managing to use the same tricks to hang on. It's as though people become more susceptible to such rhetoric the older they get.
