My wife told me about something that was said in a lecture on "integrative medicine" that was so spot on. Seriously, the lecturer said that it made her "feel like she was doing something" and the patient "feel like something's being done." Talk about giving away the game!

She couldn’t provide much, if any, evidence for “integrative medicine” interventions, but at least these treatments are “doing something.”🙄

the number of times I've ordered FFP because IR/cross-sectional radiology insisted for an INR of 1.7 in a liver patient (evidence of cirrhotic patients being hyerpcoagulable with elevated INRs), it makes them feel better

Unless you have a clear cut case of x that is cured by y, the whole system now drives people to integrative/functional/naturopathic etc precisely because feeling like someone is doing something actually feels better, and that is the point.

Rather like the political syllogism from "Yes, Prime Minister": Something must be done. This is something. Therefore we must do it!

Integrative medicine simply integrates the patient’s hard earned cash into the integrative practitioner’s wallet.

I disagree- 20 yrs w an IM clinic. Acupuncture helped w shingles as much as the antiviral drug. My nutritionist has helped w getting my bloodwork/body chemistry where it needs to be & consults w my GP. I could give more examples, but this is all at one clinic. It’s been amazing.

        Acupuncture is theatrical placebo.
