Interviewing medical students for residency positions in our program both exhilarates and depresses me. On the one hand, these students are really impressive (publications, lots of volunteer work, sometimes overseas). They'll be excellent residents and, ultimately, surgeons. 1/

I didn't see any "gaming the system." These students were quite genuine, at least the batch I interviewed this morning.

I'm based at a small school. Students don't seem to have an issue getting placements, but I worry they're going to have a hard time standing out for competitive residencies, esp with level1 boards going to pass/fail. Postdoc hunt was different, so I'm not sure how to advise them

So nice to hear experienced folks not using their experience as a platform to degrade younger generations. By all accounts it sounds warranted. But you just don't see it happen very often--presumably in similar scenarios.

I’m constantly impressed by the youth of today, local junior school children had a better grip on the issues surrounding vaccine challenge trials than lots of adults. They’re a good bunch.
